67% of Wii owners haven’t used it Recently

Wii SportsA statistic that no Nintendo fan-boy wants to hear. But according to ComputerAndVideoGames.com, a Japanese report revealed that even while the Wii is dominating the console sales, three quarters of the installed user base hasn’t touched the Wii-mote in a while. This could stem from the fact that there hasn’t been a Wii game that has caused a “similar wave of hysteria since Wii Sports“. Or this be do to what I’ve been saying for a while now, most of the current Wii games sucks.  Nintendothemselves are to blame for the delay in big name releases. They’ve been so engross in promoting these casual games that they’ve forgot about the real gamers, for a little while at least. Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain thinks that the release of Wii Fit can bring back some attention. I seriously doubt that, but then again, what do I know?

But this doesn’t come as surprise though considering that 67% of Japanese gamers only constitute a small fraction of Wii owners of the world (unless the report is actually referring to the rest of the world too). This particular phenomenon is bound to occur with any console that hasn’t had a hit game in a while. Take for example, the Xbox 360 which really didn’t have a real big game until Gears of Wars came out a year after launch. And aside from Resistance Fall of Man, the PS3 still doesn’t have a big enough game to make a serious impact (unless you consider Motorstorm widely successful). I personally don’t believe that the majority of Wii gamers aren’t playing the Wii. I would say that a lot aren’t, since most are waiting for the arrival of the bigger hits like Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros Brawl - and I don’t blame them. But there has been solid releases this past year to keep gamers busy in the mean time like Resident Evil 4, Super Paper MarioMario Strikers Charge, and others.

So until more clearer figures arrive, I consider this news as a big “who cares”.

There just is no reason to touch it right now. There is nothing new or exciting about the Wii at this point.

I think that will change once Super Mario Galaxy is released though. It seems to be generating a large amount of hype among gamers.

That… and another Zelda title (with some next-gen characteristics) would help out the Wii a whole lot.

Well even though there isn’t really a big named game out right now, there is actually plenty of reasons to play the Wii right now. Metroid Prime 3 is definately one of them. Mario Galaxy is obviously going to be big, but not every Wii owner is a Mario fan. Super Smash Bros Brawl is going to be another big one, but thats not until next year. Like I said, each console has their “filler-games” until the real big ones hit. 360 had their Gears of War, Bioshock, and now Halo3. PS3…well…would of been Heavenly Sword but…

I do agree that another Zelda game with some serious overhaul in next-gen graphics would do the Wii good too. Needless to say I’m looking forward to Guitar Hero 3 later on this month also…
