Child Beaten to Death by Teens Acting out Video Game

Ah yes, the age old question that has existed since the arrival of video games themselves. Do games cause violence in kids? Do they make kids want to fight each other? Are kids mixing up reality with fantasy? Well, obviously the general answer is no, of course not. But opponents of video game like super conservative Jack Thompson, have made it their personal crusade to make sure that “violent” video games don’t make it out into the market because apparently they believe it does causes violence. And while it’s a good thing that the majority of us don’t believe the BS, there are a growing number of people who do. Which is why the stupid dumbasses i’m writing about here is just contributing to the false pretense that games do cause violence in kids…or in this case teenagers.
Two teens in Colorado were charged on Tuesday with child abuse, resulting in the death in one of the teen’s 7 year old little sister, Zoe. Apparently they were acting out the fight scenes from Mortal Kombat. The game console they were playing was not mentioned however. Heather Trujillo, 16, and her boyfriend, Lamar Roberts, 17, of Westminster are currently being held on $100,000 bond. The little girl known as Zoe, had died from blunt force trauma to her brain and central nervous system. The Weld County Coroner stated that her her right wrist was broken, her body had more than 20 bruises, her neck muscles were bleeding and skin near her tongue had been torn. Jesus Frickin Christ. How the hell can someone do such a thing?
Now here is where it gets even more stupid. Heather Trujillo was suppose to be babysitting her sisters when her and her boyfriend began to savagely hit and kick Zoe, reenacting Mortal Kombat. Lamar Roberts who claimed to be a martial-arts expert with his hands registered as “lethal weapons”, said Zoe had asked him to stop hitting her but that he didn’t because “…I was drunk.” Roberts had performed a back kick on her, and then kicked her again as she ran towards him. I’m not quite sure what the hell was going on here if Zoe asked him to stop hitting her. Zoe then fell down, stopped breathing, and didn’t get back up. The two teens wait 15 minuted before attempting to revive her. They placed her into a bathtub which temporarily revived her, but then she stopped breathing again. Roberts then, of all dumbass things decides to cracked an egg in her mouth “to see if she was messing around with them.” Of course it didn’t work.

Now there’s a lot of things going on with this piece of news. Was it the the game that caused the violence? Was the alcohol? Or was it just the stupidass teens themselves? Personally, I think the teens were dumbasses on their own terms. The alcohol also obviously play a part in it since teens shouldn’t be drinking anways (yeah we all did we were under-aged :P, but it doesn’t make it right). As for the Mortal Kombat game itself, I don’t believe it mattered at all. They could of have been watching some Jet Li flick, Lord of the Rings, or even the Rocky series which could have triggered the idea to start beating up on the girl.
This kind of incident just makes me sick. I feel bad for the little girl’s family and I seriously hope these two idiots gets whats coming to them. Not to mention, this incident also provides more ammo for anti-video game activists to complain about. Its bad enough that we have Jack Thompson running around trying to banned any potentially cool game that comes out, but now he gets to run his mouth again about how video game is causing violence. So if any of you out there have the urge to reenact your favorite video game, quit being stupid and stop now! Join a martial arts gym, take up boxing, or MMA instead.

Stupid douchebags like that are what cuase the whole video game violence debate. You know what though, I have played video games all my life and have not done anything like that. Am I an exception? No.

As a video gamer AND a philosophist, it is in my inherit nature to question what is true and what is not. In this case I wish to know, in what context has it been proven that video games caused this little girl’s death? For example, the Army uses a game called “America’s Army” as a recruitment feature. Yet this game does not cause people to join the army, it is merely re-enacting how the army works.
Yet it has come to my attention during my study of MAVAV, Jack Thompson, and even Dr. Phil, that every one of them contradict themselves and eachother on the issue of violent video games. In the case of the little girl’s death, it was unfortunate, uncalled for, and completely avoidable had the two teens used common sense. Mortal Combat is quite possible one of oldest arcade games still in existence, yet America’s children continue on with their daily lives. But why is it that two teens re-enacted what they saw in a video game, which ended in the loss of a child’s life? Another question could be derived from this “how in is it the video games’ fault?” as well as many others. The teens were most certainly old enough to know better and it is their fault that the little girl died. Even if it was the video games’ fault in retrospect, and other violent show could have caused this. For example they could have watched WWE and the little girl still may have died. Yet why are the teens not convicted with 3rd or even 2nd degree murder? It seems to me that anti-video game lobbyists and radicals are insulting the little girl’s death by trying to blame it on video games rather than the inherit cause, teens who should have been smarter than to try wrestling moves that killed her.
