New Systems comming to the Virtual Console?

Japanese Virtual Console Site

From CVG, it was reported on Kotaku that the redesign Japanese Virtual Console site is now displaying eight console boxes when originally there was only six. Wait six? Yep, they’re counting the TurboGrfax-CD and the TurboGrafx-16 as one console. So what are the new consoles to expect? Many are speculating that the Sega Master System(the NES’s nemesis during the 80’s 8-bit wars) is definitely going to be one of them. As for the other, well nothing yet but I’m guessing it may just be one of Nintendo’s portable consoles…perhaps the Gameboy, Gameboy Color….heh, Virtual Boy..?

Who knows. But whatever Nintendo decides to do, it’ll only just benefit them more ($$$). The Wii itself has hit it’s one year mark last month and Nintendo’s Shinji Hatano revealed that the Virtual Console sales has made $33 million dollars so far from the 7.8 million downloads as of this November.

The Sega Master System

The Sega Master System, Nintendo’s first formidable foe.

Personally, I hope they do bring the Sega Master System over to the Virtual Console. Being a former owner of one, I always did enjoyed the technical superiority of it over the NES, despite it totally getting destroyed in sales in the US. Nonetheless, that would be a day to remember when seeing two total enemies come together again as partners on the Wii..

Hardcore and Casual Games Part 1

Hardcore Games vs Casual Games

This latest console generation has been flooded with a host of new tech buzz words such as “Bluray“, “HDMI“, “Multi-Core“, and “Cel Processor.” Its also known for the gradual divergence of games resulting in new words like “hardcore game” and “casual games.” Suddenly a game is no longer a just a game like they were 10 years ago, but now they’re either casual or hardcore. This divergence came with the rise of people who don’t normally play games, are now suddenly playing games and the fact that people are now having more free time to play games. Thus now games are being lumped into different categories based on many different attributes of that particular game and the gamers themselves.

But the issue with these new words is that gamers can often still get them confused and the actual definition of what kind of game a particular game is, is still a bit shady. Its due to the fact that these terms can mean different things to different people and that there really is no “official” dictionary terminology for it…yet. This makes it easy for any one to toss around terms and use them carelessly. So what exactly is a hardcore game and what exactly is a casual game?

Game Informer RUMORS: Nintendo’s next platform coming sooner than we think?

Take this with a huge grain of salt but it is a given that Nintendo has been working on their next console for some time now as confirmed by Miyamoto in the past. However I don’t know if this rumor has to do with that old rumor about Nintendo launching two consoles this generation. One with ATi and IBM which is the Wii and the other was “supposedly” Nvidia and AMD. While that rumor was quickly shot down; I don’t see that this is the case. I think the Wii will be the only console how ever, I can see Nintendo releasing a console in year or two to make up for its outdated hardware with better Wii-mote controls. We wont know for a while, but if they release it early can’t Microsoft and Sony make theirs more powerful or steal Nintendo’s Ideas? Well that’s IF both Microsoft and Sony survive this round *wink wink*.
