I’m glad to see the Wii numbers getting higher every week, although they are still not as high as they should be. The DS is continuing its rampage over the world by selling out everywhere.

On the software side of things,  I’m glad to see Wii Fit doing well on its first week. Hopefully that will help the Wii in Japan. I’m also glad to see that people are buying DQ4 for the DS. The more Square support the better. It is a little disappointing to see Mario Party DS doing better then Super Mario Galaxy. Galaxy should be at the top of that list, but whatever. I am starting to dislike the Japanese gaming community more and more as time passes.

Square Enix Confirms The World Ends With You

World Ends With You

Square Enix has confirmed a Spring 2008 European release for ‘The World Ends With You’. Here’s to hoping it comes to the US. It’s lookin’ pretty fricken’ sweet! Then again, what Square game isn’t?

Dual Screen World Ends

The game takes place in modern day Tokyo. The story so far is Nuku, a 15 year- old boy wakes up in a Tokyo Shopping District with no recollection of how or why he got there. He receives a text message telling him that he has 7 days to live unless he accomplishes certain tasks, then the craziness begins.

A few cool points about this game:

  • Vibrant modern-day Tokyo setting
  • Hip characters and styles
  • Techno and hip hop soundtrack
  • Combat system is going to rock, utilizing both screens and the microphone in ways unseen on the DS.

Unfortunately, not a whole lot is available beyond that: Check out the game’s Wikipedia and come discuss it in our forums. You can be sure this game will eventually end up in the states.

Nintendo Still Kicking Ass and Taking Names

It’s only the first week of the 2007 and the big N has sold more than more products than it ever has in its history. Over 653,000 DS systems (breaking a sales record for the week of Thanksgiving as it continues to be the top selling system of the year) and 350,000 Wiis will be finding a happy home this holiday season. These are the highest numbers the console has seen outside of its launch last year.

These are amazing numbers and we can only expect more as the holidays approach.

Check out Nintendo’s official website for more on that: Nintendo

Everyone’s Nintendo is LIVE!…… In Japan Only…

Demo Selection ScreenEveryone’s Nintendo is officially Live in Japan, and with out warning. This trailer channel allows you to not only download to your Wii, but to your DS as well. We can obviously tell Super Mario Galaxy is one of the videos, I wouldn’t doubt on Metroid Prime 3, and many many more. For DS I’m guessing the Brain Age games and Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. My only complaint is, bring this to North America soon and don’t let the Euros suffer ethier. Come on Nintendo we know its coming. After all, IT IS called Everyone’s Nintendo and I am Nintendo. Are YOU Nintendo?

First of I would like to ask if you would all like the inclusions of competitor consoles as well. If you may, please respond in the comments as it will greatly benefit us here at thewiieffect.com.
****************************************
Wii: While Super Mario Galaxy is self-explanatory, the success of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games and Umbrella chronicles is showing good signs for third partys. As much as I love the Resident Evil series myself I am quite surprised a light gun spin off is selling like hot cakes. Maybe there is hope for the future of Resident Evil on the Wii. As RE4 sold more on the Wii than on the ps2 and Game Cube.
****************************************
DS: Mario Party hits the top charts, though honestly this is like Mario Party what? 12 now, jokes aside its another addition too the DS. Following up is Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and believe me this game is by far one of the greatest on the DS and for those who don’t own it…. your missing out a great adventure. A new Final Fantasy, that yes again sells faster than ice cream truck could ever dream of. Then we got Contra 4, finally a true sequel that actually lives up to the legendary original games. ****************************************
360/PS3:These are our the competitors summed up. The Xbox 360 has Assassins Creed at the top of the list and believe me that is one game that is worth the mention, a must try for gamers everywhere. Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4. In Sony’s empty pockets we got Uncharted for PS3 as well as some other games that is multi-platformed with the 360.

UPDATE: I apologize for all the stars, word-press for some strange reason is not spacing things correctly. Sorry for the inconvenience.

New Castlevania DS On Its Way

Castlevania - Dawn of SorrowIGN reported today that a new Castlevania game is being developed for the Nintendo DS. Iga, the series producer, stated “We’re working on a title for the DS. For this title, we’re keeping the production team that made Portrait of Ruin, so it will definitely be a game of high quality. Please wait just a bit longer for an official announcement.”

So there it is. The DS is getting a new Castlevania game. Hopefully the game will be more like Dawn of Sorrow, which is one of the best in the series in my opinion.
