Analysts Explain Possible Reason for Low Wii Sales January

From Gamasutra:

Analysts have explained a possible reason for the low Wii sales this January. Japans Wii Fit and Brawl sales may have a lot to do with it. The small lead over the PS3 is likely due to “the diversion of Wii units to Japan to support the launches of Wii Fit and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.” according to one analyst.

Either way, the PS3 sales are picking up. The 360 is lagging far behind, but Microsoft had an explanation for that. No idea who to believe at this point, but hey, that’s the way sales works.

We All Saw This One Coming

News from Gamepolitics:

As you have all heard by now, some dipshit opened fire on a bunch of students. I hate stories like this for two reasons.

1. I hate it when innocent people die

2. It’s more fodder for self-proclaimed video game violence “experts” like Jack Thompson.

We all know that blaming video games for this stuff gets these “experts” TV coverage, but come the hell on Jack. We don’t even know a whole lot about this kid except for the fact that he actually had a pretty good track record. He claims to already know the cause of this? Video games. Why am I not surprised.

Most of the people who do stuff like this are already off their rockers. I don’t think it’s fair to blame video games for violent behavior. I that’s right, violence wasn’t invented until after Pong. Sorry, history was never my strong point.

Now, let me clarify, I can understand Jack Thompson’s stance on video games not being sold to minors. Still, that is up to the parent, and parents need to educate themselves. That is part of the responsibility of having kids. Still, in this case, the shooter was some 27 year-old dumb-ass who was fed up with his sorry ass life.  Is Jack Thompson going to try to take away video games from me too?

Sadly, he had to take the lives of people who were actually looking forward to living, and my thoughts go out to their families.

PS3 is Gaining

Well, January’s numbers are in:

  • Wii - 274,000
  • PlayStation 3 - 269,000
  • PlayStation 2 - 264,000
  • Nintendo DS - 251,000
  • PlayStation Portable - 230,000
  • Xbox 360 - 230,000

Wow, the PS2 is still going strong.  The PS2 and 3 both outsold the DS, which still dominates the hand-held market.  The Wii is still on top of things, but the PS3 is not very far behind.   Let’s see how things roll out in February.

Wii Fit is Not Intended to Make You Fit

I got it from Kotaku, again:

Miyamoto said in a recent interview on Nintendo’s site that Wii Fit is not necessarily meant to make you fit, rather ” what it’s actually aiming to do is make you aware of your body.”

Then people get all bent out of shape over it. It’s a game. These same people will be disappointed when most of them find out that they won’t be in real rock bands either.
