Now Thats Some Hard Candy

 News From Kotaku:

sharp

Damn how did this one happen.  A Florida woman picked up some Pokemon valentines at her local Dollar General store, and found a blade in the cute little heart-shaped lollipop.

I really hope this was just an accident, and not some asshole trying to get his jollies off putting razors in  some kid’s candy.

Child Psychologist Defends Violent Games

News from GamePolitics:

Dr. Frank Gaskill, child psychologist, does not believe that violent video games are to blame for violent behavior.  He says that many of these beliefs are based on, “fallacious assumptions, personal biases, political posturing and weak science.”

He also compares video games to comics saying that “In 1955, the U.S. Senate blasted comic books… Half a century later, violent video games are the comic books of our day.” He goes on to explain that “Correlations are just relationships between two variables; you can never say one causes the other. We could say that during the season when ice cream sales increase, shark attacks also increase. But we could not say the more ice cream you sell, the more you cause shark attacks.”

He makes some very interesting points, all of which can be read on his blog.

Looks Like Another GameSpot Editor is Leaving

News from Ars technica:

Ryan Davis is leaving GameSpot, and he says that it has a lot to do with Jeff Gerstmann’s departure. After 8 years of working for the site Ryan says it’s time to leave, “It’s been almost eight years since I started working at GameSpot, and Jeff was there for nearly all of my fondest and most memorable experiences on the job,”.

He is not the first to leave GameSpot over Gerstmann’s termination, and according to new editor-in-cheif Ricardo Torres, he probably won’t be the last. He can’t be too happy about this, but he is reported as saying that people will react and have to do what is best for them.

Sadly, it seems that GameSpot and Mr. Torres will have to work extra hard over the next few years to win back the trust of the writers and the gamers.

Check Out Power Up By Chris Kohler

PowerUp Cover

Ever wonder where video games got their start? This is a great book to check out. I don’t even know what I was looking for when I found it on Amazon, but I am glad I found it. Hopefully, I have made it easier for anyone else hoping for a good read to find something.

This book is definitely written for gamers by a gamer. It even has some really great history on Nintendo. A whole chapter of it. There is even a chapter devoted to Poke’mon, many mentions of Miyamoto and a brief history of his major franchises.

This is a must-have for any gamers out there. Pick it up here: Power Up
