RE:UC Outsells Zack & Wiki 3:1

News from Kotaku:

No surprise there.  Resident Evil is an established franchise on the most popular system of the year sold over 950,000 copies.  Zack & Wiki is a game that was released with almost zero advertising sold 300,00o…still not too bad, but Capcom could have helped push the sales of that game with a few well-made commercials.  Here is to hoping we have a new Capcom franchise on our hands.

Rock Band Mic Not Compatible With The Wii, According to Manufacturer

News from Joystiq.com:

According to a company spokesperson, the Rock Band microphone, despite what it says on the packaging, is not compatible with the Wii.  Weird news, especially since just a couple of days we had confirmation via conference call that Rock Band would be available on the Wii sometime in the future.

This does not mean that we won’t be seeing Rock Band on the Wii.  It just plays with our heads a little.

The Original Prototype for the Wii-Mote!

As reported on enGadget.com, we now get to see the original prototype for the infamous waggle-waggle contraption that is now called the wii-mote. To set the rumor straight from yesterday that was posted on GoNintendo,  creator Patrick Goschy (former employee of Midway)  has no plans to sue Nintendo, since he can’t because all the patents were owned by Midway which were then bought by Nintendo. Instead he just wants recognition for the concept he developed.

“I just wanted to people to know. Wanted the truth to come out. Did this 8 years ago, and the Wii has been such a huge deal, I wanted the truth to get out there. It wasn’t these two or three Japanese guys that came up with this thing.”

Yes people, those Japanese guys don’t always come up with everything. Take a look at the light-saberish looking contraption :

Wii AK-47 Controller Mod

AK-47 attachment Mod for the Wii-MoteJust when you thought that global terrorism wouldn’t have an impact on the gaming world (well its not like it hasn’t already) and that you would be safely secured sitting at home on your fat ass basking in the family fun atmosphere of the Nintendo Wii performing your waggle waggle spin in Super Mario Galaxy to get that 120th star, a fellow gamer has done the unthinkable and joined Al Qaeda.

Just kidding.

But obviously due to the situation of the events going on around the world that has inspired this fella to build a customized wii-mote attachment based on the Автомат Калашникова образца 1947 года (translation: Kalashnikov model automatic rifle of 1947) or otherwise known as the AK-47. Yes, its the legendary weapon symbol that is often carried by the enemies of the United States. The weapon that US troops have fought against for so long since 1947. The weapon that has taken the lives of soldiers, and Marines in every war since Korea. The weapon that is the nemesis of our own M-16 rifle.

But enough about that. So why was this built? Well according to the creator on his site, he states :

“I made this partly to see if it would offer improved control in games. I suppose it does offer some amount of improved control, but mostly it’s just more fun to use. But I mainly did it just for the experience of using an AK rifle butt to smack the choirists singing out of tune in Rayman Raving Rabbids.”

Yes I don’t blame him. Those damm rabbits do need some serious butt smacking every once in a while. So do those zombies in the Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles. So why would a gamer choose to build an AK-47 instead of using the good old Wii-Zapper or one of the other multitudes of available attachments? Well he makes a good point : “..unlike the zapper, the AK-47 is far cooler.” Not to mention, it’s been historically more reliable than the M-16 (heh yeah as if that’s why he chose it instead of the M-16). But if you suck at aiming in Wii-Play just using a wii-mote, then you’re still gonna suck with an AK-47.

See some more pics and how the fella built the attachments here. Also on the site, he shows us how to wrap a “Shemagh” (you know, the official terrorist headgear) if you want attract some FBI attention to yourself.
